Bellingham warned about confrontational playstyleMcCoist loves Bellingham's attitude Fears his confrontation could get him sent off(C)GettyImagesWHAT HAPPENED?
Rangers legend Ally McCoist has exclaimed that he loves Bellingham's 'confrontational' style of play on the field but has warned that it could get him into trouble at some point if he is not careful.
AdvertisementGettyWHAT MCCOIST SAID
Speaking to BoyleSports, the Rangers legend said: "I don’t mind Jude Bellingham’s confrontational style, it's a wind up. Don't worry about that, that's a wind up. It's a show of aggression, but it's a wind up.
"He’s clever and he's not gonna get himself sent off, but I genuinely don't want to tempt fate because it could happen to him, but I don't think he's gonna get caught up like that and get sent off, but he's just letting somebody know that he's up for it.
"It's a kind of cheeky show of aggression, which I don't mind at all. To be honest, I quite like it."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Bellingham has had a meteoric rise to fame since his move to Real Madrid last summer from Borussia Dortmund for a reported fee of €103m (£88m/$110m). The English midfielder made an instant impact on Los Blancos as they raced away with the La Liga title and then capped it off with a Champions League win.

Copa America crack-down on halftime antics
Peru suffer same fate
WHAT HAPPENED?
Argentina's failure to comply with CONMEBOL rules regarding re-entering the pitch in a timely manner after halftime has seen them hit with a hammer blow. Manager Scaloni has been fined and suspended for their final group stage match against Peru Saturday evening.
La Albiceleste were warned by Copa America officials after their first offense in their opening match against Canada, but after they followed-suit with a delay once again against Chile on Tuesday, CONMEBOL put their foot down.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Canada's Jesse Marsch delivered a damning statement following their loss to La Albiceleste, calling for consequences for their actions that he claims handed Argentina a seemingly unfair advantage.
“When they were waiting, I knew that they were looking at video and they were analyzing how they wanted to play against us,” Marsch said. “Now, I wish again the referees would manage that. If we were five minutes late, we’d get a fine. There’d be a big problem. Let’s see what happens with Argentina. I think they have to be fined.”
Marsch added: "They had that time to prepare how they wanted to play against us in the second half, which if we would have known ahead of time that we could have an extra 10 minutes then we could have prepared some things more. Argentina should be fined. They should be fined for coming out 20 minutes late for the second half.”
CONMEBOL themselves took the criticism seriously it seems, and now La Albiceleste will face the consequences. Their opponent Saturday, Peru, will too suffer the same fate. La Blanquirroja manager Ricardo Gareca will also miss the match for the same double-offense.
WHAT ARGENTINA SAID
Assistant coach Walter Samuel, a former Argentina international himself, will take control of the squad at Hard Rock Stadium Saturday evening.
“Lionel is upset about this,” Samuel told reporters. “We consider ourselves to be staff with a lot of professionalism. We found out today. It was a blow. Sometimes you’re talking about a small detail. We weren’t trying to find an advantage. Now we have to focus on the next match and move forward.”

Glasgow Rangers have recorded 11 victories in a row and are at the summit of the Premiership table as March begins.
Add in a League Cup triumph along with a clash against Benfica in the last 16 of the Europa League to come next week, and It's safe to say Philippe Clement has transformed the Gers from the doldrums under Michael Beale to potentially winning a treble.
The Belgian has done this while inheriting a squad which had been built by the Englishman during the summer, while several big-money signings had failed to prove their worth during the opening couple of months of the new campaign.
It all seems to be coming together nicely just as the season is reaching its climax and another trophy or two will endear Clement even further to the Ibrox faithful.
The summer transfer window will be the chance for him to enhance the quality of his squad along with getting rid of some deadwood and one player in particular may find himself surplus to requirements.
How much Ben Davies cost Rangers
Former manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst faced a similar situation during the summer of 2022 after taking over the previous November.
Not only had he won the Scottish Cup – the first time the Gers had claimed the trophy since 2009 – but the Dutchman led Rangers to the Europa League final, although it ended in heartbreak.

The Ibrox side failed to retain their Premiership crown, however, and the main priority for the 2022/23 campaign was to win it back.
This saw the former Feyenoord boss splash money on the likes of Antonio Colak, Ridvan Yilmaz and Rabbi Matondo, while Ben Davies was also a big-money signing.
Market Movers
Football FanCast's Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club's star player or biggest flop worth today?
Indeed, the Gers paid Liverpool handsomely in order to secure his signature as a fee of £4m was agreed.
The Englishman failed to make an appearance for the Anfield side during his 18 months on Merseyside, but he did have plenty of Championship experience during spells with Preston North End and Sheffield United, indicating that his arrival could bolster the defence.
Ben Davies
Nearly two years since his signing, Davies has failed to live up to that £4m transfer fee and his performances have seen his market value decrease rather rapidly during this time period.
Ben Davies’ market value at Rangers
According to Football Transfers, the centre-back is now currently valued at €1.7m (£1.4m) and the way things are going, this won't be increasing any time soon.
His valuation actually reached €5.2m (£4.4m) during the embryonic stages of his spell in Glasgow, yet this value plummeted fairly swiftly due to a series of poor displays.
Ben Davies
The defender has played only 12 times this season under both Beale and Clement, while he is even valued less than Kieran Dowell, who has struggled to make a meaningful impact since moving to Rangers last summer.
Kieran Dowell’s market value at Rangers
The midfielder was signed on a pre-contact agreement prior to the end of the 2022/23 season and was paraded to the supporters during their final home match of the campaign against Hearts.
Dowell had played over 100 Championship matches during his career down south, scoring 26 goals and registering 12 assists, suggesting he could add something extra to the Gers attack.
Due to injury problems, however, the 26-year-old has failed to really demonstrate his true abilities on a consistent basis for the club.
The former Everton starlet has made just 12 appearances for the Ibrox side thus far, scoring three goals. He has shown flashes of brilliance, especially in a clash against Motherwell on Christmas Eve, netting a fine opening goal for the club.
Although he cost the Light Blues nothing, his market value currently sits at a respectable €2m (£1.7m) and if he can return to action sooner rather than later and contribute during the title run in, this could even increase slightly.
It shows that even someone who has not played often still has a higher value than that of Davies and these could perhaps be his final few months in Scotland.
Why Ben Davies’ market value has dropped
Despite splashing cash on the centre-back, Davies only started once for the club between his arrival and the start of October during his maiden season due to injury, and it meant Van Bronckhorst had to play youngster Leon King alongside Connor Goldson.
His performances in the Champions League were particularly dismal, as the Gers struggled against the elite. Davies not only ranked in a lowly 14th spot among his teammates for tackles per game (one), but he also ranked sixth for possession lost per game (10.3) along with averaging a Sofascore rating of just 6.23 for the games that he featured in.
It was not just Europe that he struggled in, however, as he failed to really hit the ground running once he recovered from his injury issues, despite featuring 38 times for the Gers that season.
Indeed, following a mistake against Celtic last April in what was effectively a title decider, former Ibrox frontman Kenny Miller dubbed Davies “poor” and it proved he had a long way to go in order to succeed north of the border.
The 6 foot 1 liability started every single Europa League fixture as the Gers topped their group, but he has played only six times outside that competition, and given the recent form of John Souttar, the defender has dropped down the pecking order.
The 28-year-old still has just over two years remaining on his current contract, yet this could suggest Clement may be able to sell him for a decent fee during the summer transfer window.

The defender could be set to depart Ibrox this summer.
ByRoss Kilvington Aug 4, 2023
Whether they can recoup the majority of the £4m that was spent on him two years ago remains to be seen, but anything northwards of £2m would represent a decent piece of business by Clement, and it could give him some funds to strengthen his side.
Although Davies looked like he could turn out to be a solid investment, the truth is, his performances have failed to impress the Ibrox faithful and this could see him depart in the coming months.
Worcestershire opener Hamish Rutherford pulled out of Vitality Blast to be with the squad as cover
ESPNcricinfo staff04-Sep-2019There’s good news on the Ross Taylor front, but not so when it comes to Martin Guptill, as New Zealand get ready for their tour-ending third T20I against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Friday.Hamish Rutherford called up as batting cover for Martin Guptill amidst an injury epidemic of sorts•ESPNcricinfo
There was a point, at the end of the second T20I – which New Zealand won to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series – when it seemed like they would be struggling to find 11 fit players to put on the field for the last game. From their squad of 14, Lockie Ferguson had been ruled out of the entire series after breaking a finger, and New Zealand opted not to name a replacement. But Taylor was then ruled out of the second match because of a hip injury, and Guptill was unable to bat in New Zealand’s chase after straining a stomach muscle in the field. If that wasn’t enough, Tom Bruce, who struck a half-century in the successful chase, picked up a knee problem part-way through his innings. Guptill has since been ruled out of the remaining game, but Taylor has been passed fit to play, while Bruce’s condition is being monitored. That did leave New Zealand with 11 players to put on the field, but they have also called up Hamish Rutherford from Worcestershire for a bit of batting cover. Guptill will now return home for further assessment.Rutherford, who has turned out for New Zealand in 16 Tests, four ODIs and seven T20Is, was in action in the Vitality Blast for Worcestershire and might miss the quarter-final against Sussex on Saturday.Guptill will return home to New Zealand on Wednesday for further assessment, and Hamish Rutherford, the Otago Volts and Worcestershire opener, has been called up from England as cover for the game.”Ross could have played [the second game] if we’d desperately needed him to. We just wanted to take the sensible measure of not putting him under undue pressure when we didn’t need to,” Gary Stead, the New Zealand coach, said on Wednesday. “We’ve still got 48 hours or so to the next match, so we’ll see how he [Bruce] pulls through.”
England spinner reflects on cult status after helping seal victory in the final Test of summer
Alan Gardner16-Sep-2019If any confirmation were needed that Jack Leach has become an England cult hero, it came on the third evening at The Oval. Leach had walked out to bat alongside Jofra Archer, with England eight down and sitting on a 374-run lead when people began to rise in their seats and join in with a booming chorus that echoed around the ground: “Stand up if you love Jack Leach!”Only those of a green-and-gold persuasion declined to join the choir. Leach’s fan club has grown steadily since the middle of summer, but largely because of his batting exploits rather than his spin bowling. First came the 92 as nightwatchman opener against Ireland at Lord’s, for which he was named Man of the Match; then the valiant 1 off 17 balls to accompany Ben Stokes into the history books at Headingley. In the first innings at The Oval, he held up his end while helping Jos Buttler to add 68 and lift England from trouble again. Then there is the endearing routine of cleaning his glasses between deliveries. In part it is Leach’s everyman appearance that chimes with the watching public – though the sight of fans at Old Trafford mimicking his bald pate and glasses prompted Kevin Pietersen to wonder in a column for a betting site whether Leach was becoming a “laughing stock”.On the final day of the series at The Oval, Leach made sure the talk would be about his bowling at last. He made key incisions to remove Marnus Labuschagne and Tim Paine before taking the last two wickets to fall for figures of 4 for 49 – his best in home Tests – in the process sharing all ten with Stuart Broad and his captain, Joe Root.

“Today I just wanted to be patient and felt if I did my job well then the wickets would come,” he said. “I needed to put the ball in the right area and be patient. I got my rewards at the end, with some good catching from Rooty. Broady set the tone amazingly well earlier on, it was a real team effort. The Aussies fought hard but we did enough.”It was nice to get some wickets on the last day. The support for me has been something I didn’t think I’d ever experience. Maybe it’s because of my batting, but I think it’s mainly because I’m bald and have got glasses. The way the public have warmed to me is something very special and I don’t take for granted. I can’t thank them enough.”England were well on their way to drawing the series on Saturday evening, when Leach was warmly serenaded by the Oval crowd. Looking back, he was happy enough to acknowledge the moment of fortune at Headingley that saw Nathan Lyon drop the ball with a decisive run-out opportunity begging.”Yesterday, when I was batting at the end, over there they were singing ‘Stand up if you love Jack Leach’, and then they started over there as well. I just thought ‘What is going on?’ Nathan Lyon came over and said to me ‘How many beers do you owe me [for the run out]?’ I think I owe him a lot. Sport is fickle and I guess you have to enjoy the good moments and not get too down about the bad moments. I have had some luck as well. Hopefully you earn that luck through hard work, I will continue working hard.”Jack Leach claimed the key scalp of Tim Paine•Getty ImagesLeach has been a hit on social media, as well as in the stands, with a video of his re-enactment of the single he scored at Headingley receiving more than 5000 likes on Twitter. After Australia had retained the urn by winning the next Test, at Old Trafford, there were suggestions that Steven Smith had donned a pair of glasses in mock tribute – though it was later clarified to be a joke at the expense of bespectacled former Australia opener Chris Rogers.”Smith came to me to let me know that it wasn’t about me,” Leach said. “I didn’t know whether it was or wasn’t. I was kind of hoping it was, and thought it was a good laugh. I was very embarrassed after Headingley when the video came out of me doing my one. I think I deserved that to be honest! That’s why we got a picture together after the game with him wearing my glasses!”Having made a low-key debut in Christchurch in March 2018, then missing out on the following Test summer through injury, it feels as though Leach has taken 18 months to become an overnight success. However, he does not intend to bask in his new status, and could well find himself involved in a momentous achievement of a different kind over the coming days, with Somerset closing in on the first-ever Championship title in their history.”Somerset-Essex next week, I don’t know if I’ll play yet. I’ve been part of that Somerset season as well so I don’t know. During this series it’s been pretty mentally and physically tiring. But I probably haven’t bowled too many overs, not a silly amount. It will be good to go back and try to win the Championship with Somerset because we’ve never won that.”
It would probably be fair to describe Crystal Palace's season thus far as disappointing – to be diplomatic.
The Eagles did manage to come away from Goodison Park with a hard-fought point on Monday night, which will surely please new boss Oliver Glasner, but with just six wins from their 25 Premier League games this season, they could still be in trouble.
What makes their position even more treacherous, however, is the growing number of injuries the team has had to contend with this season, as key players like Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and Michael Olise are all out at the moment, with the latter set to remain so for some time.

That said, if the Frenchman is set to miss out on a large portion of the season, Palace might already have the perfect solution in their ranks in a 19-year-old winger who has been tearing it up with the youth sides this year.
Michael Olise's Crystal Palace record
The tremendously exciting winger joined Palace in July 2021 for a fee of just £8m, and while he was a relative unknown to the wider footballing world, he has to be considered one of the best bang-for-buck signings in recent history.
While the "brilliant" Olise, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, didn't make it into the first team squad for the first three Premier League games of the 2021/22 season for the Eagles, he did come off the bench to make his debut in the fourth game, against Tottenham Hotspur on 11 September.
The "simply superb" gem, as described by Kulig, scored his first goal for the club just a few weeks later, as the south Londoners drew 2-2 at home to Leicester City. From then on, he was a regular, making 31 appearances in all competitions across the season, scoring four goals and providing eight assists.
The following season, he scored two goals – including that stunning free-kick against Manchester United – and registered 11 assists in 40 appearances.
This year, despite the club's struggles in front of goal – and his injury problems – he has managed to score six goals and provide three assists in just 11 games, which will be music to the ears of Glasner, especially as the mercurial winger signed a new deal in the summer.
In summary, the 22-year-old is a spectacular footballer, and while it would be hard to find someone exactly like him, the academy might have gotten close.
Why fans should be excited about Franco Umeh-Chibueze
Now, proclaiming a 19-year-old as the next Olise could be seen as putting undue pressure on the shoulders of said youngster, but Franco Umeh-Chibueze isn't just any youth player.
The Irishman joined the Palace setup from Cork City in February 2023 after just four appearances for the senior side.
Academy manager Gary Issott was full of praise for the then-18-year-old, describing him as "a tall, exciting, attacking player with blistering pace and a strong left-foot."
It didn't take him long to show those qualities on the pitch either, as in his first season with the youth teams, he scored six goals and provided three assists in just 13 games, which, while impressive, is even more remarkable considering he did it in 579 minutes of football, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 64 minutes.
He was so effective last season that he has played exclusively with the U21s this year. The "exciting talent", as described by journalist Emmanuel Francis, has six goals and one assist to his name in 13 appearances – or 800 minutes – and he plays out wide as well.
It's this staggeringly brilliant ability to provide goals and assists from the wings that could make him the perfect understudy to Olise in the first team.

Ultimately, the 19-year-old gem simply isn't going to be on the same level as Olise right away, but with Palace's struggles in front of goal, it wouldn't hurt to give Umeh a chance to show the league exactly what he can do.
On Tuesday night, Leeds United make the trip to fellow Championship side Plymouth for an FA Cup fourth-round replay. The first meeting between the sides at Elland Road finished 1-1, with Adam Randell equalising for the visitors in the final 20 minutes after Jaidon Anthony had given Daniel Farke's side the lead.
The incentive for the winner is a fifth-round match-up with either Chelsea or Aston Villa, who themselves will meet in a replay on Wednesday night. But heading into the game, Farke is dealing with a few injury problems.
Leeds defender Pascal Struijk.
Winger Dan James is out until at least the weekend, when Leeds take on Rotherham, after injuring his hip in the first half of the recent win over Norwich, while centre-back Pascal Struijk, who's been unavailable since Boxing Day with an ongoing adductor issue, is expected to be missing until the end of February. Stuart Dallas remains a long-term absentee after breaking his leg in 2022.
Shackleton now on the sidelines for Leeds
Farke is now set to be without a fourth player for the game at Home Park, with BBC Sport's Adam Pope reporting that Jamie Shackleton is a "major doubt" as a result of illness.
In a subsequent tweet, he adds that Farke has no fresh injury concerns and intends to take the game "seriously" while making changes amid the Whites' push for promotion to the Premier League.
Shackleton had shone in first game
Farke has described Shackleton as "an unbelievably important" part of his squad, and he showed exactly why when he stepped into the team for the first game against Plymouth and delivered an excellent performance.

As you can see in the table above, he was rock-solid defensively and looked after the ball well too, but Farke may now have to ask 17-year-old Archie Gray, who's already clocked more than 2,500 minutes this season, to start yet another match.
Farke must finally unleash "fantastic" Leeds star ahead of Piroe
The impressive youngster is yet to start a competitive match for the first-team this season.
ByDan Emery Feb 6, 2024
Since the end of September, Shackleton has started more games in the cup (two) than he has in the league (one), so he'll be particularly frustrated to miss the opportunity. It's recently emerged that Leeds intend to offer him a new contract ahead of the expiry of his current deal in the summer, and this would have been an opportunity to improve his stock before those negotiations take place. If Leeds go out, it's unclear where his next opportunity will come.

Arsenal are thought to be “totally convinced” over potential moves for two Premier League stars this summer.
Arsenal transfer rumours
The Gunners have been in fine form on the pitch under Mikel Arteta in recent weeks as they battle Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the table.
This comes after Arsenal refused to bolster their squad at the start of the year in the January transfer window. There were plenty of rumours about possible moves, but after a big summer spending spree, it looks as if the club are happy to once again save themselves for the end of the season before adding to Arteta’s side.

Two players who have been heavily linked with a move to north London are Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto.
Fabrizio Romano claimed last month that Toney would be open to a move to Arsenal, although Brentford were wanting “crazy money”.
“Toney is a player they appreciate, this is true and from what I'm hearing, Toney would be keen on a move to Arsenal.
“But at the moment the financial package is way too expensive for Arsenal. Brentford want crazy money as their manager confirmed a couple of days ago, so I think this is going to be a complicated one.”
It has been added that the Gunners are in pole position to sign the striker, who is valued at £80m, whereas £60m Neto is also of interest to Arteta and co.
Brentford's Ivan Toney
In fact, Arsenal scouts were even in attendance at Molineux earlier this month for Wolves’ clash with Brentford to watch the pair in action, with Toney scoring in a victory for the Bees.
Jones on Arsenal links to Neto and Toney
Talking about the Arsenal scouting trip to look at Neto and Toney, journalist Dean Jones said to GiveMeSport that it was “ideal” for the Gunners and that those at the Emirates are “totally convinced” over the pair possibly working out in north London.
"It was an ideal fixture for them to take in those two players. Both of them have been on the radar over the past year, and it was an opportunity to check exactly where each player is at this stage of the season.
"To be honest, I think it's beyond the stage of gauging how good either player is. Arsenal are totally convinced that either of them or both of them could work well at the Emirates. There are not really any doubts around that."
Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Pedro Neto.
Should both players end up moving to north London this summer, it could end up costing the Gunners in the region of £140m due to Neto and Toney’s asking prices.
After signing Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya last summer, though, it shows that the club are willing to back Arteta, so it may not come as a shock if the attackers followed suit in 2024.
