Crystal Palace manager latest as John Textor thoughts on Hodgson revealed

After a heavy 4-1 defeat to Premier League rivals Brighton last weekend, things are looking pretty bleak at Crystal Palace right now. Across the last 17 league matches – nearly half a season's worth of football – only Nottingham Forest (14) and newly-promoted Burnley and Sheffield United (both nine) have picked up fewer points than Roy Hodgson's side (16).

To make matters worse, Michael Olise is now facing a two-month absence after aggravating a hamstring issue. Olise had experienced discomfort in that area in the midweek win over Sheffield United, but Hodgson still took the risk of bringing him on with his side 3-0 down against Brighton, and he paid the price.

What's more, defender Marc Guehi is out for a number of weeks too, while Eberechi Eze will join him on the treatment table as games against relegation rivals Everton, Burnley and Luton creep into view. Predictably, in such miserable circumstances, the manager's position is coming under scrutiny.

Textor wants Hodgson out of Palace

According to The Guardian's Ed Aarons, who offered a Hodgson update, Palace's primary shareholder John Textor has been in favour of a managerial change for "several weeks" now. However, he hasn't spoken with chairman Steve Parish over the past seven days.

Parish has "strongly contemplated" dismissing Hodgson and has sounded out potential replacements, but key targets are apparently reluctant to take over with little time to make an impact.

There's a feeling among certain members of the board at Selhurst Park that the club missed an opportunity to make a change after the 5-0 defeat at Arsenal last month, when there was a 10-day window to prepare for the next game against Sheffield United.

Root of Palace's problems is clear

Palace's biggest problem isn't that they sacked Hodgson – it's that they reappointed him as manager in the first place. It's been around 11 months now since the club parted company with Patrick Vieira, a decision that was justified in the midst of a 12-game winless run that seemed destined to end in relegation.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson returned to South London and carried out the firefighter role effectively, safely guiding the Eagles to an 11th-place finish with an 11-point cushion to the bottom three. When Vieira had been sacked, the gap was down to just three points.

Crystal Palace can hire 'next England manager' to end Hodgson nightmare

The 44-year-old has an impressive track record in the game.

ByJack Salveson Holmes Feb 6, 2024

There was a renewed feel-good factor around the club at that moment, but the smart sporting move would have been to shake hands and embark on another new project. Instead, Palace fell into the trap of appointing Hodgson on a permanent basis, ignoring the warning signs from his earlier tenure.

They hadn't offered him a new deal ahead of the expiry of his contract in 2021 because they felt they needed a refresh and a change of direction, so going back to the Englishman was clearly a regressive step. In that sense, it feels inevitable they've ended up repeating the cycle, except this time there appears a very real threat of relegation.

Ray Parlour thinks Arsenal could make move for £60m Premier League star

Speaking to Football FanCast, in partnership with NetBet Online Casino, Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has shared his thoughts on a possible signing the north Londoners could make.

Edu and Arteta reportedly targeting midfielder

According to recent reports, both sporting director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta have set their sights on a new central midfielder and potential replacement for Thomas Partey.

The Ghanaian's injury problems, coupled with some claims that he is open to leaving the club, have been an issue for Arteta this season as he seeks to guide Arsenal to a first Premier League title in 20 years.

Mohamed Elneny and Jorginho are also out of contract at the end of this season, which would leave Arsenal pretty short of midfield options later this year if they don't elect to bring one in.

Thomas Partey comes off for Jorginho.

As the north Londoners face a triple midfield exit in 2024, Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz, who is a long-term target for Edu and co.

Another player attracting interest from the title contenders is Everton star Amadou Onana, with Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri sharing news of Arsenal's advances for him earlier this month.

The Independent and journalist Miguel Delaney also claimed late last month that a centre-midfielder is one of Arteta's personal transfer wishes alongside two new full-backs and a goalscoring striker. Onana, however, could cost in the region of £60m.

Parlour backs 2024 Arsenal swoop for Onana

While FFP restrictions and a limited January budget make a move for the likes of Onana hard to pull off this month, Parlour has told FFC that a 2024 move is still very much possible.

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

The ex-midfielder believes Arsenal could swoop for Onana later this year to solve Arteta's midfield conundrum.

"If Partey leaves, then Onana has been the one Arsenal seem to have identified to come in and be the boss in that holding area of the pitch," said Parlour.

"But in January, Everton will want too much money and are in a relegation battle, so won’t sell him. In the summer, Onana could be the one Arsenal will go for as he is impressing. On Havertz, he is working well in the side, but Arsenal need to convert the chances they are creating."

Virat Kohli 'heartbroken' after batting failure wrecks India's World Cup campaign

India captain defends middle-order after spirited comeback, but there’s no way back following aggressive New Zealand attack

India lost the World Cup semi-final in the first 45 minutes of their chase against New Zealand, and will now return home “heartbroken”, according to their captain, Virat Kohli, who nevertheless insisted that his team had done a “commendable” job in the course of the tournament. The several hundred India fans, who had opted to stay back for the second day of the rain-interrupted contest, were left aghast as Matt Henry and Trent Boult reduced their side to 5 for 3 and then 24 for 4 in the first Powerplay. And despite a spirited comeback, led by Ravi Jadeja and MS Dhoni, the damage proved too much to overcome in an 18-run defeat.”The game pretty much changed in those first 40 minutes when we were batting,” Kohli said after the match. “The pressure created was immense in those first 40, 45 minutes. And when you lose 3 for 5 it is very difficult to come back into the game.”Kohli admitted that India had clearly not been ready for the challenge presented by New Zealand’s seamers, who had been given a total of 239 to defend after adding a further 28 runs to their overnight 211 for 5. While that did not look like a substantial total at the time, a pair of hard-worked half-centuries from Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor had made it clear that the surface was not easy for run-scoring.”New Zealand, the way they bowled, they did not provide any opportunities for us,” said Kohli. “For the first seven or eight overs we didn’t get a ball to drive. That shows the kind of control they bowled with and they put the fielders in the right positions and that was a perfect spell of fast bowling with the new ball, which really put us under a lot of pressure.ALSO READ: Bal: India’s strongest suit turns weakest link in Madchester drama”We are not shying away from accepting that we didn’t stand up to the challenge and we were not good enough under pressure. We have to accept that and accept the failure as it shows on the scoreboard.”According to some reports, New Zealand prepared for the contest by watching videos of Pakistan’s victory over India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final – another match which featured key early wickets in India’s run-chase.”I wasn’t surprised with how New Zealand played, to be honest,” said Kohli. “If there is a low total, we knew there’s probably only one or two sides in world cricket that will put seven fielders in the ring and one was going to be New Zealand.”We knew they were going to attack more. They will not let the game go to the end, they won’t take it deep, they will go all out and play the game. Today, also, third man was up in the ring. In the one-day game you had five catching fielders. So they know how to put pressure because they play very consistent cricket.”At 5 for 3 after 19 balls, India’s soft underbelly – their middle order – was brought into play earlier than at any other stage of the tournament. In each of their previous contests, at least one of the top three had endured to drop anchor into the middle overs, not least Rohit Sharma, who had notched five hundreds in his eight previous innings.”I don’t think that I would like to break things down immediately, but in time we’ll have to sit down and analyse where we went wrong and the things we could have done right in this game particularly,” said Kohli.Kohli on Rishabh Pant: “He is an instinctive player and did well to overcome that situation and stringing a partnership with Hardik. He’s still young. He will look back and think he could have chosen a different option and he realises that already”•IDI via Getty Images

He did, however, add that a “couple” of batsmen might have reason to question their shot selection. He didn’t name names, although both Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya fell to rash aggressive shots after digging in hard to rebuild the innings. Pant opted to slog-sweep Mitchell Santner and bring to an end a dogged 47-run partnership, before Pandya, too, lost his head to a mow across the line and picked out Kane Williamson in the deep.Immediately after Pant’s dismissal, TV cameras caught Kohli swiftly walking out of the Indian dressing room to have a chat with head coach Ravi Shastri. Was he furious at the youngster’s shot selection?Kohli categorically said that was not the case, claiming instead that he wanted to discuss with Shastri the mini-targets that the team needed to set during such a chase. As for Pant, Kohli said he already understood his mistake but it was all part of the learning process for a 21-year-old player who had not even been an original selection in this, his first World Cup.”He is an instinctive player and did well to overcome that situation and stringing a partnership with Hardik,” said Kohli. “The way they played after the loss of four wickets rather, was quite commendable. He’s still young. I made many errors when I was young in my career and he will learn, he will look back and think, yes, he could have chosen a different option in that situation and he realises that already.”All these guys have a lot of pride and passion to play for their country and they are the ones who feel the most disappointed when a mistake happens. On the outside it looks like it was an error but the person who makes it, trust me, they are the ones who suffer the most with it.”I’m sure he will reflect on it and he will come out stronger. The talent is there for everyone to see and the character is there, but, as I said, yes, a few shots, not just Rishabh, but that happens in sport. You make errors, you make decisions which are not right at that time and you have to accept it.”The defeat will be doubly painful for Kohli because, once again, he failed with the bat in a crucial knock-out contest. In his three World Cup semi-final appearances, he has made scores of 9 (2011), 1 (2015) and 1 again today. Even in the Champions Trophy final in 2017, he made just 5.Today he chose to review his lbw decision after being struck on the pad by Boult, but was sent on his way after the umpire’s call was upheld by the replay. Kohli flung his bat in anger and disappointment as he left the crease. He admitted afterwards that he had been unable to control his emotions in the moment, but owned up to failing when it mattered most for his team. “It is very disappointing not turning up when the team wanted me to. Obviously, it feels bad. Everyone gets disappointed when they get out so it was a natural reaction.”Leading India at a World Cup for the first time, Kohli’s dream of making the final has been shattered despite India finishing top in the group phase. He did not hide his disappointment. “Of course, very disappointed,” he said, “to just go out on the basis of 45 minutes of bad cricket is saddening and it breaks your heart also, because you have worked so hard throughout the tournament to build momentum.”You finish No. 1 in the table and then a spell of bad cricket and then you are out of the tournament completely. But you have to accept it.”We are sad, but we are not, you know, devastated because of the kind of cricket that we played in this tournament. We know where we stood as a team and today we were not good enough and that is the nature of this tournament. A bad day in the knockout stage [and] you are out of the tournament”But having said that, we have qualified to the semis and we have played some really good cricket, so we should be also proud of the way we have played and look at the positives also, because there were a lot throughout this tournament, especially Rohit’s performance was standout, Jasprit [Bumrah] with the ball and Jadeja given the opportunities. So there are many things that we can take back as positives.”

Spurs eyeing up £26m "monster" who could be their next Romero

The January transfer window officially slammed shut last Thursday and Tottenham Hotspur snapped up two new additions to their first-team squad.

Central defender Radu Dragusin was brought in on a permanent deal from Italian side Genoa to compete with the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy also moved to sign Germany international Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig, and the former Chelsea man has enjoyed a strong start to his career in North London.

The end of the transfer window did not stop the club from doing more business, though, as 18-year-old Lucas Bergvall was snapped up for a fee of £8.5m earlier this month, and he will link up with his new team at the end of the season.

Latest Spurs transfer news

Tottenham may not be able to make more signings to bolster their squad for the second half of the current campaign but, like they did with the Swedish teenager, they can put work in ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Corriere di Bologna, via Tutto Bologna Web, Spurs are one of many sides 'launching' their interest in Serie A centre-back Riccardo Calafiori as Postecoglou eyes up another new enforcer.

The report claims that Juventus, Napoli, AC Milan, and the Lilywhites are all keeping tabs on the impressive defender, who has caught the eye with his performances in Italy so far this season.

Riccardo Calafiori.

It also states that a fee of €30m (£26m) has been touted for the 21-year-old colossus. However, it remains to be seen whether or not any of the interested parties would be willing to pay it.

There is also the possibility that Bologna's valuation of the towering ace could fluctuate based on his form between now and the end of the campaign, as a drastic dip could lower his market value or it could skyrocket with a string of sublime displays.

Spurs already have van de Ven, Romero, and Dragusin on their books as recognised, natural, centre-backs, which means that they have two right-sided options and one, van de Ven, for the left, although Ben Davies can also cover in that position.

Signing Calafiori, who is left-footed, would leave Postecoglou with exceptional competition for places as he would have two first-team quality options in each role, for the right and the left of the centre-back pairing, and ensure that complacency does not creep in.

Whilst, as a left-sided titan, the £26m-rated gem could play alongside him, Spurs could land their next Romero in a swoop for the Bologna star as both players are progressive passers who can also read the game effectively to win possession back for their respective sides.

Cristian Romero's impressive performances for Spurs

The World Cup winner has been a terrific performer for Tottenham in recent seasons with his full-blooded, committed, displays at the heart of the defence.

Romero gives his all on the pitch and that is sometimes too much when it boils over, as it did when he gave away a penalty and picked up a red card for a poor challenge against Chelsea in the Premier League earlier this season.

Take those occasional moments of rash play out of the equation, though, and the 25-year-old colossus is vital to Spurs with his play in and out of possession.

Over the last 365 days, Romero ranks within the top 14% of centre-backs in the Men's Big Five Leagues and European competitions for progressive passes (4.86), and the top 11% for shot-creating actions (1.23) per 90 respectively.

Cristian Romero.

This shows that the Argentina international is a forward-thinking defender who constantly looks to progress the play for his team to build attacks, rather than being a regressive centre-back who plays safe passes and stagnates build-up play.

Along with his superb use of the ball, the Tottenham star also excels as an out-and-out defender who can read the game and dominate in physical battles.

Romero ranks within the top 13% of his positional peers in the aforementioned competitions over the last 365 days for interceptions (1.56), and the top 5% for tackles (2.40) per 90 respectively.

He has also won 69% of his duels across 18 appearances in the Premier League so far this season for Spurs, which shows that opposition players rarely get the better of him.

Why Calafiori could be Romero 2.0

Postecoglou could land a left-footed version of Romero by securing a deal to sign Calafiori ahead of the likes of Napoli, Juventus, and Milan in the summer.

FBref list the Argentine enforcer as one of the most similar defenders to the Bologna star based on their respective statistics, and it is easy to see why when you look at the 21-year-old ace's form this season.

Calafiori, whose recent progression has been described as "insane" by analyst Ben Mattinson, is a progressive passer who does not shy away from his defensive responsibilities.

The Italian titan currently ranks within the top 6% of Serie A centre-backs for shot-creating actions (1.68), and the top 29% for progressive passes (3.53) per 90 respectively. He also ranks in the top 5% for successful take-ons (0.46) per 90 this season.

These statistics suggest that the Spurs target, who has played 19 league matches this term, is similar to Romero in how he excels at building attacks that lead to shots at the opposition's goal.

As you can see in the table above, Calafiori has dominated attackers in physical contests and made made multiple defensive interventions to win the ball back for his team each game.

In fact, he ranks within the top 6% of Serie A centre-backs for interceptions (1.97) per 90, which illustrates his ability to read the game to step in and cut out opposition attacks.

Calafiori, who was described as a "monster" in the air by the aforementioned Mattinson, has also won 73% of his aerial duels in the league this season.

Therefore, the Bologna tank could be the left-footed Romero for Spurs if they secure his services in the summer due to his qualities in and out of possession.

West Ham now in talks to sign experienced star as Moyes steps up plans

West Ham are said to be in ongoing talks to sign an "experienced" striker as manager David Moyes steps up his plans to bring in a new forward.

West Ham short of attacking options

Injuries to Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio have left Moyes with very few star attacking options to choose from over the next few weeks.

Mohammed Kudus is also at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana at this moment in time, leaving Moyes with just Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals, youngster Divin Mubama and the out-of-favour Danny Ings as his only options. This has apparently kicked West Ham into life, and it is believed that Moyes is personally working hard to sign a new striker.

They've been linked with a host of new centre-forwards over the past week alone, and there are also suggestions that West Ham are keen on a goal-scoring winger.

West Ham manager David Moyes.

Sunderland starlet Jack Clarke, Norwich City ace Jonathan Rowe and Ajax captain Steven Bergwijn have been tipped as targets for the Irons, while the club are said to be eyeing up a few number nines.

Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez, AZ Alkmaar ace Vangelis Pavlidis, fellow Greek Fotis Ioannidis and Stuttgart hitman Serhou Guirassy stand out among the many who West Ham are thought to be keen on.

The latter is apparently being chased by half of Europe, though Hammers technical director Tim Steidten has been working on a deal to sign Guirassy this month.

Stuttgart strikerSerhou Guirassy.

“As we have reported for some time, Serhou Guirassy is still a top target for the club this January,” said club insider ExWHUemployee recently.

“Tim Steidten has worked on this potential deal, although I must stress there are many others keen on the player. Not only has his performances attracted other top clubs to look at the player, but the fact he’s got a £15m release clause makes the competition for his signature fierce. Another stumbling block is the player is part of the Guinea side at the AFCON, although they are not expected to advance far due to a tough group they are in.”

The 27-year-old has scored a brilliant 17 Bundesliga goals in just 14 appearances for Stuttgart this season, alerting a host of clubs across Europe.

West Ham enter Guirassy transfer talks

Sharing an update on the club's interest in the forward, journalist Pete O'Rourke has some very interesting news for Football Insider. The reporter claims West Ham are now in ongoing talks to sign Guirassy, and are really keen to bring him to east London.

Stuttgart strikerSerhou Guirassy.

They're also in discussions over Gimenez, with Moyes' side extremely keen on bringing on one of the two. West Ham's manager is stepping up plans to bring in a new striker, and it appears Guirassy is an option firmly on the table.

Alongside his attributes as a potent goalscorer, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has also branded the Guinea international "very experienced".

Jofra Archer given chance to prove Ashes fitness in Sussex games

Jofra Archer will be given the chance to prove his Ashes fitness by playing in a T20 Blast game for Sussex this Friday, and a three-day Second XI game next week.Archer was named in England’s 14-man squad for the first Test at Edgbaston, but was omitted from the final XI as he continued his rehabilitation from a side strain he had suffered during the World Cup.”Jofra is coming back from quite a serious injury,” said England’s captain, Joe Root, explaining his omission. “We looked at conditions and made a decision on what we thought would best take 20 wickets here.”It also gives him time to get absolutely ready and fit to make sure he has his workloads up and ready to go for later in the series if he needs to make an impact. [His fitness] will be monitored throughout the week. It’s important that he’s ready to go to offer something different.”Archer was one of the stars of England’s World Cup win, taking 20 wickets at 23.05 before bowling the decisive Super Over in the final against New Zealand, but admitted he had played through “excruciating” pain during the tournament. After a brief trip back to his native Barbados, Archer took 2 for 21 in his four overs in Sussex’s tied T20 Blast game against Surrey before joining up with the Test squad.Archer has been released to play in Sussex’s game against Kent on Friday night, and will then make his first appearance in the Second XI Championship since 2016 when he plays against Gloucestershire at Blackstone, a game which starts on Tuesday.Sussex also have a T20 against Glamorgan that day, but Archer will instead have the chance to prove he is fit enough to bowl longer spells with the red ball.It had been suggested that Archer might be loaned to Worcestershire to play in their tour game against Australia, as has happened with Andrew Strauss (Somerset), Nick Compton (Worcestershire), and James Taylor (Sussex) in previous years, but he will instead be kept away from the limelight in rural West Sussex.Olly Stone and Sam Curran, the other unused members of England’s Edgbaston squad, have also been released to play in the Blast on Friday night.Stone will join up with the Birmingham Bears squad for their game at Trent Bridge, while Curran will play for Surrey at Taunton.Eoin Morgan returns to Lord’s for his first appearance since the final tonight in Middlesex’s game against Kent, while Adil Rashid has been included in Yorkshire’s Blast squad for the first time this season for Friday night’s fixture against Worcestershire.

Middlesex, missing AB de Villiers, edged out by Gloucestershire

Middlesex fall to first defeat of the Blast season in de Villiers’ absence as Gloucestershire sneak home

ECB Reporters Network25-Jul-2019Cheltenham-born Miles Hammond delighted his home crowd with a brilliant array of shots as Gloucestershire inflicted a first defeat on Middlesex in this season’s Vitality Blast. In front of a sell-out 5,000 attendance at a steaming College Ground, the 23-year-old opener smashed 63, including nine fours and three sixes, to help see his side to a two-wicket win after the visitors had won the toss and elected to bat.Without AB de Villiers, who was nursing a hand injury, Middlesex could post only 148 for 9 on the fast-scoring College Ground, Stevie Eskinazi making 40 and John Simpson 42 not out. David Payne claimed 3 for 32, while Ryan Higgins and AJ Tye both returned 2 for 23.In reply, Gloucestershire slipped to 84 for 5, despite Hammond’s efforts, before Benny Howell (33) and Jack Taylor (24) made sure they reached 151 for 8 and won with four balls to spare.Middlesex began like a team who had won their first two group games, as Eskinazi hit three fours off the first four balls of the match, sent down by Payne, and Dawid Malan lofted Graeme van Buuren’s second ball from the other end over deep square for six.But left-arm spinner van Buuren stemmed the early momentum with his next delivery, which saw Malan caught and bowled off a skyer.Dan Lincoln came in at three in the absence of de Villiers for his Middlesex debut. The 24-year-old Surrey-born batsman and Eskinazi, who faced only 26 balls, took the score to 73 before the latter was brilliantly stumped by James Bracey off a Howell leg-side wide.Lincoln, a non-league goalkeeper who was only registered by Middlesex yesterday, made sure the momentum was maintained, hitting Higgins for a straight six, before being caught at deep midwicket off the following delivery for a promising 30.The same over saw Nick Gubbins taken at long-on for a single and at the halfway stage Middlesex were 81 for 4. The visitors were then squeezed by Howell, AJ Tye, Higgins and Tom Smith, losing George Scott cheaply as they added 26 in four overs.Toby Roland-Jones and Tom Helm perished to catches at extra cover off Payne, while Nathan Sowter also succumbed to an attempted big hit, and Mujeeb was bowled by Tye for a duck.Middlesex had lost their early momentum, with a straight six by Simpson off Howell in the 15th over a rare blow of defiance.Gloucestershire’s innings began as their opponents’ had done, Hammond hitting two fours and a six in the opening two overs. But the third saw Tom Helm strike a double blow, having dangerman Michael Klinger caught behind for ten and Ian Cockbain taken at point two balls later to leave the hosts 25 for 2.Hammond continued to attack with a series of sweetly-timed shots that help take the hosts to 59 for 2 at the end of the powerplay. Soon the local boy was raising his bat to acknowledge warm applause for a 26-ball fifty.Bracey and Higgins fell cheaply before Hammond’s superb knock was ended by a low catch from wicketkeeper Simpson off Roland-Jones. At 84 for 5, Gloucestershire had to regroup.Howell, dropped at short cover before he had scored, and Taylor added 45 priceless runs together. Both fell at the end, along with van Buuren, but had already ensured a hugely successful festival for Gloucestershire ended in style, as Smith hit the winning runs.

"Unbelievable" – Sky Sports man loves what he’s seeing from Idah at Celtic

Celtic have been told that they have signed a player with "real good qualities" this January as they look to bolster their chances of more silverware under Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic locked in another Old Firm battle

The Glasgow giants are trying to hold off a resurgent Rangers in a bid to win a 54th Scottish Premiership title this campaign, and looked to the January transfer window in a bid to bolster their ranks.

Winger Nicolas Kuhn was signed from Austrian giants Rapid Vienna, while Adam Idah also arrived in a late loan move from Championship side Norwich City, with the pair expected to add more attacking verve to Brendan Rodgers' side.

As things stand, his Celtic sit top of the SPL, three points clear of bitter rivals Rangers in a two-horse race for supremacy, but Rangers have a game in hand with which they could draw level, and should they win by three goals they would leapfrog Rodgers and co.

The new signings could ultimately prove the difference though.

Idah to prove excellent business

Celtic fans were treated to their first sighting of Idah in their 1-1 draw with struggling Aberdeen, with the Norwich academy graduate grabbing an assist to level the scoreline and keep the hoops three points clear atop the Scottish Premiership. He then opened his account for the club in their next game, scoring twice in a 2-1 win at Hibernian.

Norwich forward Adam Idah.

And according to ex-Norwich striker Robert Earnshaw, Brendan Rodgers has got a good one in Idah, with the Ex-canary waxing lyrical about the move.

Earnshaw appeared 45 times for Norwich in the early 2000s, scoring on 27 occasions, and now finds himself a part of the Sky Sports team. As a man who knows a thing or two about finding the back of the net, he was keen on the move for both Celtic and for Idah.

"I like him. I like him as a player. I think he's good. He shows some real good qualities, Earnshaw told LiveScore.

"I think going to Celtic sometimes can just open you up and be like, ‘yeah, this is a great platform’, and your confidence is then sky-high. Maybe he needs something like that. I think it's an unbelievable move.

"I was close years and years ago to going to Celtic. They were interested, but it never came through. But I think him going to Celtic is a huge move. I mean, you're talking about one of the most famous clubs in the world. My friend Joe Ledley was there for years and years, and I know how much he enjoyed it. But it's a good football club for him”, Earnshaw added.

The 22-year-old is only at Celtic Park on a temporary basis as things stand, with Norwich refusing to add an option to buy into the deal despite Rodgers being keen.
