Dodgers Crushed by MLB Fans After Losing on Embarrassing Walk-Off Error

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the 2024 MLB season as the favorites to win the World Series but the NL West leaders are limping into the All-Star break after losing two straight games to the Tigers, which included an embarrassing ending to Sunday's game.

The Dodgers, who have lost six of their last seven games, had a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. Right-handed pitcher Yohan Ramírez then gave the game away when he fielded a grounder back to the mound and made a wild throw to third that allowed Justyn-Henry Malloy to score the winning run.

This was a rough scene for the Dodgers, who blew a five-run lead in the ninth in Saturday's loss:

Tara Norris takes the honours as Lancashire turn the tables

Key allround display dents high-flying Warwickshire to tighten the permutations in Women’s Blast

Lancashire Thunder opened the Women’s Vitality Blast table right up with a five-run victory over Warwickshire at Edgbaston.Eleanor Threlkeld’s side shrugged off a slow start with the bat to reach 162 for seven, much of it compiled in heavy drizzle. That was a strong recovery from 31 for four, led by Ailsa Lister 39 (26) and Tara Norris (33 not out, 24) against an accurate Warwickshire attack in which all six members took wickets,The home side replied with 157 for nine. Davina Perrin provided a fiery start with 34 (23) and Natasha Wraith late power with 58 not out (34) but Lancashire closed the game out as Norris completed her excellent all-round day with three for 24.Put in, Lancashire soon lost Emma Lamb, off-stump flattened by Issy Wong, and then lurched from 29 for one to 31 for four in nine balls. Seren Smale was beautifully stumped behind her legs by Wraith, Fi Morris sliced her second ball, from Charis Pavely, to backward point and Threlkeld top-edged her third to short third to supply Hannah Hardwick’s first Blast wicket. The support that opener Tilly Kesteven needed finally came from Lister. They rebuilt with a stand of 69 from 53 balls before falling in successive overs. Lister missed with a slog-sweep at Hannah Baker and was lbw. When Millie Taylor turned one through Kesteven (29, 37) to bowl her, the first six wickets had fallen to different bowlers. The prospect of all ten falling to different bowlers disappeared when Alana King’s punchy counter-attack (21, 13) ended with a smart catch by Perrin at deep mid-wicket off Taylor. The recovery continued as Norris struck Pavely for a glorious six over long off in an innings turned the target into tricky.Perrin gave Warwickshire’s reply a dynamic start with four fours and a six but then had her leg-stump struck by Grace Johnson. Sterre Kalis chipped Norris to mid off and Sophie Morris then struck two huge blows in three balls. Abi Freeborn fell lbw, reverse-sweeping and Laura Harris, 132 from 55 balls behind her from her first two games at Edgbaston, skied a catch back to the bowler.Pavely’s breezy 27 (20) ended when she lifted Johnson to long off. Wong was bowled trying to cut Norris, leaving Warwickshire needing 61 from six overs with six wickets down. Wraith responded with some spectacular hitting on the way to a 29-ball half-century which sent her side into the last over needing 14 but Grace Potts, back on her former home ground, delivered it for just eight.

Carragher reveals £200k-a-week Liverpool star must be dropped "right now"

After Liverpool lost for the second time in the space of a few days courtesy of Galatasaray, Jamie Carragher has called for one of Arne Slot’s biggest stars to be dropped.

Slot "disappointed" again by Liverpool

After needing late goals in several of their opening games to salvage victory, something seemed off about the Premier League champions. They looked vulnerable and defeat seemed inevitable. The late goal simply wasn’t always going to arrive. And, as expected, Crystal Palace have since exposed that uncomfortable fact for Slot’s side.

The Eagles stole the late show from the Reds to hand them their first defeat at the weekend and Galatasaray have now followed suit to deal Slot back-to-back defeats for just the second time in his Liverpool career. For many, the decision to award Galatasaray a first-half penalty was contentious, but that shouldn’t have been that for Liverpool, who never truly reacted to going behind.

Having his say on his side’s defeat, Slot told reporters: “Again, disappointed. For me, this was a different performance on and off the ball [than Crystal Palace]. First half, we played quite well and had a big chance to go 1-0 up.

“It is difficult to compare this situation to before. We are sometimes a bit outsmarted in situations like this, and I cannot blame Dominik Szoboszlai for the situation. They make a 20% penalty a 100% penalty, which is very smart from them.”

It doesn’t get any easier for the Reds, either. They travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and club legend Carragher has already called on one player to be dropped against the Blues.

Carragher calls for Liverpool to drop Wirtz

In a brutal assessment, Carragher called for Liverpool to drop Florian Wirtz “right now” following another disappointing display from the £200,000-a-week German. The former Bayer Leverkusen star is without a goal or assist since the Community Shield and is struggling to get up to speed at Anfield.

Whether it’s been out wide or in midfield, it’s hard to argue with Carragher’s verdict. Something is wrong with this Liverpool side and it’s only natural that the blame goes the way of the £116m midfielder who hasn’t contributed since Wembley.

Slot certainly has a big decision to make. A few, in fact. As the Chelsea game approaches, Liverpool must lay down a marker as Premier League champions.

Bryony Smith century steers Surrey to a convincing win over Somerset

Crucial stands with Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt-Hodge defy tenacious Amanda-Jade Wellington in rain-hit match

Surrey 306 for 7 (Smith 110, Dunkley 79, Wyatt-Hodge 44, Wellington 4-47) beat Somerset 215 (Knight 36 Wellington 36, Monaghan 2-43, Gregory 2-43, Stonehouse 2-47) by 101 runs DLS methodBryony Smith posted a superb hundred to steer Surrey to a convincing 101-run win over Somerset on the Duckworth Lewis Stern Method in the Metro Bank One Day Cup women’s competition at the Cooper Associates Ground in Taunton.Leading by example, Surrey’s captain scored 110 from 103 balls, struck 15 fours and dominated crucial stands of 100 and 134 with Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley for the first and third wickets respectively as the visitors made 306 for 7 in a contest reduced by rain to 44 overs a side. Dunkley raised an attractive 79 from 81 balls and Wyatt-Hodge contributed 44 with eight fours, while Australian spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington returned figures of 4 for 47.Chasing a revised target of 317, Somerset came up short in the face of accurate bowling and sharp fielding, Heather Knight and Wellington top-scoring with 36 and Alice Monaghan, Danielle Gregory and Alexa Stonehouse claiming two wickets apiece as the home side were dismissed for 215 in 40.5 overs.Somerset’s seamers struggled with their lengths and Smith and Wyatt-Hodge took full advantage, raising 50 in just 6.3 overs amid a flurry of boundaries as Surrey got off to a flyer. Smith was especially severe on anything short and wide, accruing eight fours in a forthright 57-ball half-century, as the opening partnership realised three figures in 13.4 overs.Wyatt-Hodge took on Somerset’s spinners and was just six runs short of 50 when she finally came a cropper, attempting to carve Wellington through the covers and slicing high to backward point with the score on 100. Wellington then had Alice Capsey held at slip in the act of reverse sweeping to further reduce the visitors to 106 for 2.But there was no stopping Smith. Afforded a life on 80 when dropped in the deep by Laura Jackson off the bowling of Chloe Skelton, Surrey’s skipper made good her escape to register a buccaneering hundred via 96 balls with 14 fours. She found a willing ally in Dunkley, who scored freely all around the wicket in compiling 50 from 57 deliveries, and these two threatened to take the game away from Somerset.Under intense pressure, the home side made too many errors in the field and the third wicket stand was already worth 112 when rain forced the players off with the score on 218 for 2 after 32.4 overs. Desperate to take wickets and bring the DLS equation back into their favour, Somerset trusted in Wellington following the resumption. The Australian did not disappoint, persuading Smith and Paige Scholfield to hole out to Knight at long-off in quick succession.Having done her utmost to ensure the visitors would post a total in excess of 300, the resourceful Dunkley stepped across her stumps and was bowled around her legs by Skelton as Somerset continued to fight back. Charlie Dean then accounted for Monaghan and Alice Davidson-Richards, but not before these two, together with Kira Chathli, had added valuable lower middle order runs.Chasing a revised total of 317 in 44 overs at a required rate of 7.2 runs an over, Somerset suffered an early setback, Emma Corney playing down the wrong line and being bowled by Rhianna Macdonald-Gay with 19 on the board.Adhering to the tenets of line and length, Surrey’s seamers were able to create pressure and the required rate was above eight when Sophie Luff top-edged a pull shot and was brilliantly caught by Macdonald-Gay on the run at midwicket. Somerset’s captain had scored 15 and the home side were 56 for 2 in the thirteenth over with much work still to do.Having failed to defend big totals in matches against Warwickshire and Lancashire, Surrey needed to remove former England captain Knight for their own peace of mind. This they managed to do in startling fashion, Monaghan deflecting a Fran Wilson drive onto the stumps with Knight, having scored 36 from 41 balls, hopelessly out of her ground. There appeared to be no way back for Somerset from 73 for 3 at the end of the fifteenth.Surrey were fully in charge by the time Wilson was stumped by Chathli, pushing forward to Gregory and departing for 23, while Dean was held at backward point off the bowling of Stonehouse as the home side lurched to 117-5. The game was effectively up by the time Griffiths was bowled by Gregory for 14 with the score on 144, but nobody had told Wellington or Skelton, who staged a defiant alliance of 53 to hold up Surrey. Capsey ended Wellington’s innings on 36, holing out to deep backward square with a notional 120 more runs needed from eight overs.

'Too much' – Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe raves about PSG star after Barcelona beaten in Champions League clash

Kylian Mbappe was left raving about Achraf Hakimi’s performance for Paris Saint-Germain in the French side’s Champions League victory over Barcelona, with the Real Madrid superstar admitting that his close friend is “too much” to handle when performing at the peak of his powers. The buccaneering full-back put in another classy display as the reigning kings of European football claimed another notable scalp in Catalunya.

Kings of Europe: PSG claimed dramatic win over Barcelona

La Liga giants Barca headed into said contest full of confidence after hitting the summit of their domestic division. They had teenage wonderkid Lamine Yamal at their disposal, with the 18-year-old lining up on the opposite side of the field to Hakimi. Marcus Rashford was initially charged with the task of trying to get the better of PSG’s Morocco international right-back.

The Manchester United loanee did that when teeing up Ferran Torres for the opening goal of the game, but PSG fought back from there to claim a dramatic winner in the 90th minute through Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos. Hakimi starred when keeping Yamal and Co at bay, allowing Luis Enrique’s side to play their way into the game and ultimately emerge victorious.

AdvertisementMbappe watched PSG after netting Real Madrid hat-trick

Former PSG forward Mbappe was among those watching on from afar. He had enjoyed a productive Champions League outing of his own 24 hours earlier, with a hat-trick being recorded for Real Madrid in their 5-0 demolition of Kazakh side Kairat. He made a point of tuning in for PSG’s highly-anticipated clash with Barca.

He was given plenty to get excited about, as Clasico rivals came unstuck on home soil. PSG’s all-time leading scorer was particularly pleased to see Hakimi thrive on the grandest of stages – with the 26-year-old showing once again that he is one of the best in the business when it comes to the art of defending and providing a threat heading in the opposite direction.

Hakimi posted several images on social media that were packaged as “Champions League night”. He ended that reel with a shot of Jamie Foxx portraying former boxing world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in a biopic miniseries. Mbappe responded to those pictures by saying: “You there, that’s too much, huh.”

Hakimi happy with his standing in Ballon d'Or vote

Hakimi recently finished sixth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or vote, with club colleague Ousmane Dembele walking off with the Golden Ball. He said of that recognition: “I don't think it's a disappointment for me. It's nice to be in the list of the 30 best players in the world. Sixth is something I've never thought about in my life. I think about team trophies first, not individual trophies. I want to perform well with my team and give everyone pleasure. Then you're the ones who talk about individual trophies. I'm proud of this sixth place and I want to keep working to, why not, move up a little in the rankings.”

Hakimi also told of his relationship with Mbappe – who left Parc des Princes in 2024: “As soon as I arrived in Paris, he helped me. I didn't speak French and he spoke a little Spanish. The friendship was formed from the start. He supported me in times when I needed it. I also supported him when he needed it. It's a natural friendship. We're friends beyond football. We don't have any problems between us. If there's something, we talk about it. It's a real friendship and we will continue to be friends.”

GettyChampions League or World Cup: Will Mbappe & Hakimi meet again?

Mbappe and Hakimi were denied an on-field reunion last season when Real suffered a Champions League quarter-final defeat to Arsenal. PSG went on to see off the Gunners, paving the way for them to demolish Inter in the final and land a historic continental crown. The pair did, however, cross paths at the FIFA Club World Cup.

It could be that they meet again in 2025-26, with two European heavyweights setting their sights on ultimate glory once again. PSG and the Blancos have made faultless starts to the league phase, picking up six points from two games so far. Hakimi and Mbappe could also meet at next summer’s World Cup, with Morocco already booking their tickets to that event while France sit top of their group in the UEFA section of qualification.

A clinical all-round performance from defending champions India in the second semi-final against England secured their entry into the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup final. In a rematch of the 2023 final, India kept England down to 113 thanks to a dominant show from their spinners. The top order led by G Kamalini, who scored an unbeaten 56, then razed down India’s target with five overs to spare.Related

The win was set up by India’s three left-arm spinners. Parunika Sisodia got the first two wickets and another late in the innings to finish 3 for 21 and the Player-of-the-Match medal. She was supported by Aayushi Shukla’s spell of 2 for 21, which included the wicket of England’s top-scorer Davina Perrin (45). Vaishnavi Sharma, the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, claimed three wickets in the 16th over to take the wind out of England’s innings. But it was not all rosy for India at the start. A 44-run stand between Perrin and captain Abi Norgrove powered England to 81 for 2 and set the platform for a challenging total. Aayushi’s dismissal of Perrin in the 12th over, though, triggered a collapse that saw England slide from 81 for 2 to 92 for 8. It was only the late resistance in the last four overs from Amu Surenkumar and Tilly Corteen-Coleman, who put on an unbroken 21 for the ninth wicket, that dragged England’s total to 113 for 8.Parunika Sisodia won the Player of the Match award after taking 3 for 21•ICC via Getty Images

England needed early wickets to stay in the game, and that didn’t happen, as the India openers took 44 in the powerplay. Gongadi Trisha (35) and Kamalini maneuvered the gaps expertly in a 60-run partnership in 8.6 overs.Trisha’s dismissal at the hands of Phoebe Brett nearly brought England another wicket, as Norgrove appeared to take a diving catch in the covers with Kamalini on 25, only for the TV umpire to rule that the catch hadn’t been completed cleanly. That decision, followed by wides from Surenkumar and Trudy Johnson that ran away to the boundary, put India in a near-unassailable position, and Kamalini finished the game off with three fours in the 15th over. The second of them brought up her second half-century in as many innings.India now take on South Africa in Sunday’s final in Kuala Lumpur, with both sides going into the title clash undefeated.

Talks held: Man Utd ready to make shock move to sign £40m World Cup winner

Manchester United are now ready to make a shock move for a “world-class” World Cup winner, having held discussions over a deal at the weekend, according to a report.

Strachan believes Man Utd must replace Onana

Former Celtic boss Gordan Strachan has suggested Ruben Amorim needs to replace Andre Onana this summer, given that the goalkeeper doesn’t have the necessary qualities to succeed at Old Trafford.

Strachan said: “When I’ve been successful anywhere, I’ve had goalkeepers with personality and presence. Will it be a physical presence, a personality presence that is always needed in the team,”

“I don’t think Andre Onana got either of them. I don’t think he’s got a physical presence and I don’t think he’s got this personality presence. He looks like he’s constantly at war with himself worrying about making a mistake and that he might have to go somewhere else to get that confidence back.

Amorim appears to be in agreement with the 68-year-old, given that a number of goalkeepers have been identified as potential replacements for Onana already this summer.

There has now been a new update on Man United’s pursuit of Emiliano Martinez, with a report from The Daily Mail revealing they are now ready to launch a “shock” move for the Aston Villa goalkeeper, having held talks over a deal at the weekend.

The possibility of signing the 32-year-old on loan has been discussed, but Villa are unlikely to agree to a deal of that nature, given that they would stand to gain nothing by allowing him to join United on a temporary basis.

As such, a permanent departure could be more likely, but the Red Devils may need to shell out around £40m to get a deal done, and it is unclear whether they would be willing or able to pay a fee in that ballpark for the 2022 World Cup hero.

"World-class" Martinez could be instant upgrade on Onana

The likes of Lammens and Costa are yet to prove themselves in a major European league, meaning it could be a risky to take a punt on either goalkeeper as a replacement for Onana, while the Villa shot-stopper has already proven himself at the highest level.

Gary Neville has lauded the Villa star as “world-class”, which is underlined by the fact he has won the Best Fifa Men’s Goalkeeper award two times in the last three years, having made some very important saves during that time.

Unai Emery also praised the Argentina international for a different penalty save against Fulham last season, saying: “Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world. Before the penalty, I was sat down on the bench dreaming he would save it… and he did.”

United need a dependable option between the sticks if they are to reestablish themselves at the top level, and it is difficult to find a better goalkeeper than Martinez.

Rosemary Mair back as New Zealand name experienced squad for T20 World Cup

She’s proved herself as one of our key pace options and we’re excited she’s returning.”New Zealand will also tour Australia for three T20Is in the lead-up to the World Cup, with the same squad set to participate in the games on September 19, 22 and 24 in Mackay and Brisbane. They then play warm-up games against South Africa and England on September 29 and October 1, respectively, before the start of the World Cup proper, where they face India in their first match on October 4.
