Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven is keen on joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer and manager Ange Postecoglou personally believes Spurs have a great chance of signing him.

The Lilywhites are aiming to take this transfer window by storm and back Postecoglou in his attempts to restore exciting, expansive football at Hotspur Way.

There are a fair few names attracting Spurs' interest, including van de Ven, Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen, Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo, Barcelona's Clement Lenglet and Galatasary star Victor Nelsson.

Van de Ven, though, is at the centre of reports claiming he is closing in on a move to north London – with reliable media sources like Fabrizio Romano claiming a deal is close.

As per The Daily Mirror and journalist Darren Lewis, Postecoglou personally thinks the Dutchman will be Tottenham's "fifth summer signing" after Vicario, Maddison, Solomon and Kulusevski.

The Australian is apparently confident he will join Spurs, and much like Romano, the Mirror claim an agreement is nearing. As well as this, van de Ven is thought to be keen on making the move to N17, a factor which could support Daniel Levy's attempts to sign him.

The 22-year-old is thought to command a price tag of around £25 million, a figure which may well be affordable from Tottenham's perspective.

Newcastle United are reportedly edging closer to capturing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, as Eddie Howe looks to add more star-studded names to his squad this summer.

The £55m grab of Sandro Tonali may not be the only activity the Magpies register in Italy this transfer window, with a move for Chiesa looking more possible than ever.

Could Newcastle sign Federico Chiesa?

As reported by the Daily Mail, Newcastle are one of the clubs to have been ‘offered’ the chance to sign Chiesa this summer.

The report claims that the 25-year-old would favour a move to a side playing in the Champions League, giving the North East side the advantage over fellow reported competitors for his signature, Aston Villa.

It’s added that Juventus are ‘prepared to sell’ the likes of Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic for the right price, with the winger valued at a reported €60m (£51m).

After signing permanently for Juventus last summer following an initial two-year loan deal from Fiorentina, Chiesa was valued as one of the best Italian wingers.

The talent of the 25-year-old is rarely argued, however the clouds that hang over him leave a grey tone to his presence, with him missing an astounding amount of football over the past few years to injury.

As per Transfermarkt, the Italian has missed a reported 66 games since first arriving in Turin, including a damning anterior cruciate ligament rupture in January last year.

For Newcastle, adding a winger as celebrated as the Italian could be fundamental to their charge in Europe, with an opening on the left-wing reportedly set to arise.

As reported by the Telegraph earlier this week, Howe could opt to sell Allan Saint-Maximin in order to raise funds this summer.

The Frenchman made just 12 starts for the Magpies last season, scoring one goal which has subsequently sparked rumours that he could bid farewell to the North East.

In selling Saint-Maximin, Howe could lose a dynamic wide player, although he could gain just that in signing Chiesa.

While Saint-Maximin provides a direct threat in the final third, Newcastle could deploy the talents of Chiesa in his absence, in a move that could prove to be attributable to their European success should the Italian gain sufficient game time.

Staying fit will be a task shared between the two wingers, however Howe could secure the signing of a valued star inside Europe’s elite if he can integrate Chiesa to St James’ Park.

The Italian outlet suggests West Ham are willing to pay €20m (£17m) for Schuurs, while also allowing Nikola Vlasic to head the opposite way following his successful spell on loan with the Serie A side last season.

That makes it a fairly sizable deal from United's perspective, but they will be getting themselves a hugely talented centre-back in the process – and an upgrade on the declining Angelo Ogbonna in the heart of their back four.

Schuurs ranked in the top 7% of all defenders last season across Europe's top five leagues in terms of possession won, while he was also in the top 13% for aerials won, as per The Analyst.

The former Netherlands U21 international won 0.98 tackles per 90 minutes last season across his time with Ajax and Torino, as per FBref, which compares to 0.29 for Ogbonna at West Ham.

Indeed, Schuurs also comes out on top in metrics such as blocks (1.10 v 0.80), the number of dribblers tackled (0.57 v 0.36) and pass-completion rate (88.1% v 80%).

Schuurs is not exactly an unknown talent, having impressed for Ajax in Eredivisie before doing likewise for Torino in Serie A, and links to a Premier League club are also not new.

The former Liverpool target has been tipped to reach the top since the age of 17, when former Manchester City goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus described him as "the leader of his club in everything", and a player who was destined to reach the top.

An added bonus Schuurs brings is an ability to make an impact in the opposition box, as highlighted by his two assists last season. Ogbonna, by comparison, did not score or assist any goals.

In fact, Schuurs ranked in the top 37 percentile for shots taken by defenders across Europe's elite leagues last season, showing he is not afraid to have a go at goal himself.

Whether Kurt Zouma is still good enough to play regularly at the back for West Ham is a separate issue, but by bringing in a player of Schuurs' quality, Moyes will at least be resolving one troublesome area of the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur's failure to appoint a director of football ahead of their pre-season tour to Australia is a concern, podcaster Chris Cowlin has claimed.

Due to the Foxes' relegation at the end of the season, Castagne will be available for between €15-20m (£13m-£17m) as per the report, which could represent a bargain for the Spaniard who clearly needs some reinforcements at right-back heading into next season, especially with the Champions League group stage beckoning.

Jamie Vardy lauded the Belgian for being “brilliant” during his debut for the Foxes a few years ago and given his attacking qualities are clearly better than what Arteta has at the moment, it could be a shrewd investment to secure him before next season.

According to FBref, the Serbian striker is the third-most similar player to Dessers and considering his goal-scoring abilities in the Italian top flight, netting 61 goals in 140 appearances, it is certainly not a bad comparison to have.

Indeed, the two players have registered similar statistics this season with regard to goals (ten to nine), shots on target per 90 (1.14 to 0.94), shot-creating actions per 90 (2.49 to 2.1) and touches in the attacking penalty area (115 to 102), indicating that they both offer a decent attacking threat for their respective club sides.

Beale desperately needs a bustling striker to cause chaos in the opposition box while being able to chip in with goals, and the £8m-rated machine certainly fits the bill.
