Predicted Crystal Palace starting XI vs Brighton

Crystal Palace will want to get back to winning ways when they welcome Brighton to Selhurst Park on Sunday, having lost to Chelsea in their last game before the international break.

Roy Hodgson remains without several options ahead of the A23 derby, but he will have been boosted by the news that Gary Cahill, James Tomkins and Patrick van Aanholt are working their way back from fitness.

However, James McCarthy and Wayne Hennessey suffered injuries whilst away on international duty, which means they will be unavailable for selection for the foreseeable future.

After a bright start to the season, Palace have suffered back-to-back defeats to Everton and Chelsea respectively, so Hodgson’s side will be hoping they can get back on track against Brighton.

Take a look at the starting lineup we are expecting to see at Selhurst Park, with Hodgson making a couple of changes from their last league game.

Hodgson had been forced to name a largely unchanged side before the international break. But the Palace boss now has the luxury of options at the back, as both Cahill and Tomkins are in contention for selection, so he could decide to ring several changes to his squad.

Whilst Cheikhou Kouyate has grown accustomed to his new role as a makeshift centre-back in recent weeks, he will most likely replace McCarthy in the midfield, which may create space for Cahill instead.

Mamadou Sakho should start alongside the former Chelsea defender and they could be joined by Tyrick Mitchell at left-back and Joel Ward on the opposite flank.

Elsewhere, Jeffrey Schlupp could earn a rare start to replace Eberechi Eze who struggled against the Blues, losing possession nine times in the process.

This may see Kouyate slot into place alongside him next to James McArthur whilst Andros Townsend takes up position on the other wing.

Moving further afield, Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew will resume their partnership at the top of the pitch.

AND in other news, Crystal Palace must avoid deal for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr at all costs…

Aston Villa: Fans react to reports linking John Terry with Bristol City manager’s job

Many Aston Villa fans have reacted to reports linking John Terry with the vacant managerial role at Bristol City.

The former Chelsea and England defender has been assistant manager at Villa Park since October 2018, playing a part in the club’s promotion from the Championship last year. Having learned on the job under Smith, Terry has now been linked with a move to Bristol City.

The Robins sacked Lee Johnson earlier this month after they suffered poor form since last month’s Championship restart as they have dropped out of the play-off places in England’s second tier from earlier in the year.

Villa sit 18th in the Premier League, with their top-flight status very much hanging in the balance, and the rumours of Terry’s potential departure could be an unwanted distraction for Smith and the club whilst they attempt to beat the drop.

Reacting to the links via Aston Villa News on Twitter, these fans shared their feelings about Terry’s potential exit:

Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react as Isaiah Brown signs on loan

Sheffield Wednesday are showing their intent to have a good campaign next season as they have have announced their third signing of the transfer window.

The Owls tweeted out that 23 year-old midfielder Isaiah Brown has signed for the club on loan for the 2020/21 campaign from Premier League side Chelsea.

The player has had various spells on loan in the Championship, including at Huddersfield and more recently Luton Town where he played last season. At the Hatters, he clearly did a fair bit to help the club stay in the division as he managed one goal and seven assists in 25 appearances, whilst also managing 2.1 key passes a game and 2 successful dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

If Monk felt like he was lacking creativity then he definitely shouldn’t now as Brown’s key passes would rank him second in the Wednesday squad, 0.1 behind Barry Bannan.

Before the Chelsea player signed on loan, the next Owls player after Bannan with the most key passes was Fernando Forestieri with 1.2 and he has now left. Therefore the Owls have been quick to identify a weakness in their squad and try and find a solution to it.

Here is what fans said following the news:

Owls fans, what are your thoughts on the signing? Let us know down below!

QUIZ: Can you answer these 10 questions about Sam Allardyce’s stint as West Ham United boss?

Sam Allardyce took over as boss at Upton Park during a difficult period in the history of West Ham United, with the club having just suffered relegation to the second tier of English football.

However, the former Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers manager quickly got to work and saw his side promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

During a four-year spell at Upton Park he was not always universally loved by West Ham fans, but Allardyce brought a level of consistency and solidity that has often been absent since.

After leaving the club at the end of his contract, Big Sam enjoyed further success with Sunderland before his ill-fated one-game stint as manager of the England national team.

With football finally returning to our screens after a three-month break, we look back over Allardyce’s time in East London and see how much you can remember about it…

Moss Rose

Key information about Moss Rose

Moss Rose was built in 1891 and is now the home of Macclesfield Town. The stadium is located in the southern suburbs of Macclesfield in Cheshire, about one mile south of the town centre.

Its current maximum capacity is 6,355, 2,599 of which are seated places. The pitch size measures 100m by 60m and is not surrounded by a running track nor does it have undersoil heating installed at the moment.

Moss Rose’s record attendance was set in 1967 when 9,008 supporters watched Macclesfield Town clash with Winsford United.

A history of Moss Rose

Built in 1891, Moss Rose is one of the oldest stadiums in the Football League and even more impressively, it has been the home of Macclesfield Town ever since it was erected and opened that same year.

But the situation was quite complicated since the club was actually a non-league side at that time and at one point, they were sharing the ground with Chester City, who fluctuated between Sealand Road and the Deva Stadium in the period between 1990 and 1992. Prior to that period, the only football that was actually played at the ground was low-tier and non-league action.

The first Football League clash to be played at the stadium, however, arrived when Chester City shared the facilities with Macclesfield Town in the aforementioned period. The first clash was a 2-1 win for Exeter City on 1 September 1990 and then, later on in that same month, Arsenal also visited Moss Rose in a Football League Cup tie, securing a narrow 1-0 victory along the way.

But with two tenants ‘living’ at the ground, the games had to be arranged so that Macclesfield Town were at home when Chester City were away and vice versa. This lasted until 1992 when the latter finally moved out. And interestingly, the current League Two side was really close to becoming a professional club in 1995 but their stadium let them down.

Macclesfield were denied entry to the Football League despite winning the Football Conference because Moss Rose was not up to the standards that were set for all clubs wanting to be promoted. So they renovated the ground and two years later won the Conference once again, this time being granted entry to the Football League.

Moss Rose has not yet been converted into an all-seater with only 2,599 out of their 6,355 places being reserved for seating. The current financial situation has prohibited them from further expanding the ground but there were plans to renovate it and enhance the viewing experience in the near future.

Tickets to watch Macclesfield Town at Moss Rose

All tickets to watch Macclesfield Town play at Moss Rose can be found on the club’s official website. The adult ticket costs £22 if you pick the seated category but only £15 if you are willing to be situated in the standing area.

Macclesfield Town also offer a season ticket scheme and more information can be found on the aforementioned website.

Man Utd would make a statement of intent with De Ligt move

So Manchester United may well have a second chance to sign Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

The Netherlands international was the subject of intense transfer speculation last year after a season in which he helped lead Ajax to an improbable Champions League semi-final.

Naturally, there was great interest in luring him away from the Dutch side, and it was reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team were reportedly in the running to sign him.

In the end, he chose to take his talents to Italy, and joined Juventus in a big-money deal. But things haven’t quite worked out for the centre-back over in Turin, finding himself in and out of the first-team.

As per Transfermarkt, he had started just six of Juventus’ last 11 games in Serie A – quite the turnaround for someone who was at the cornerstone of a defence that was performing so well in Europe last season.

But according to a recent report from ESPN, United are prepared to make a renewed bid for the centre-back this summer if the Bianconeri are willing to listen to offers for him.

It further claims that De Ligt “is regarded as having the perfect profile for Solskjkaer’s United in terms of his age, versatility and character”. Now whilst there may be an asterisk on his name based on the fact he hasn’t been much of a regular for Juventus in recent months, there can be no doubting that the Dutchman still remains one of the hottest young properties in European football.

At just 20, the £67.5m-rated prodigy still has plenty of time to grow and develop, and one difficult campaign in his debut campaign abroad shouldn’t tarnish his abilities whatsoever. The Red Devils mustn’t jump to conclusions based on De Ligt this season, and instead revert back to their thought process last summer when the defender was so highly sought after.

Bringing him to Old Trafford to partner Harry Maguire would be a major statement of intent. It would show to the rest of Europe that United remain an attractive destination for some of the best players in the world, even potentially without the lure of Champions League football on offer.

De Ligt’s Juventus struggles suggests he isn’t the finished product just yet, but his time at Ajax provides evidence he is very much a diamond in the making. If Ed Woodward can pull this deal off in the summer, it would lay down a marker that United are very much dining at the top table once more.

Meanwhile, Man Utd are set to battle their Premier League rivals over this star.

Celtic fans talk about Emilio Izaguirre on Twitter

Celtic fans have been discussing their former left-back, Emilio Izaguirre, on social media after the club’s official Twitter account wished him a happy 34th birthday.

The Honduras international departed Glasgow for his home country in the summer after eight seasons at Celtic Park.

Over the course of his Bhoys career, Izaguirre racked up 271 appearances, scoring five goals as well as providing 48 assists, via Transfermarkt.

During his debut season, he clinched the SPFA, SFWA and the SPFL Player of the Year award before winning seven titles.

His game time quickly diminished following the emergence of Kieran Tierney at the club so he moved to Saudi Arabia, joining Al-Fayha, but he soon returned to the Scottish giants after cutting his time short in the country.

He is clearly adored by much of the Hoops faithful with many lauding him on Twitter.

Liverpool’s Adam Lallana targeted by PSG to potentially replace Edinson Cavani

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

The Daily Mirror is reporting that PSG want to sign Liverpool’s Adam Lallana to replace LA-Galaxy bound Edinson Cavani.

What’s the story?

After Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently left the MLS club, they are looking for a new striker, and it appears that the Uruguay international is a strong candidate.

To come in for the 32-year-old, the Ligue 1 champions are said to be looking at Adam Lallana. The former Southampton man is out of contract in the summer, which means that he could be free to speak to clubs as early as January.

Flattered to deceive

Cavani is a bona fide legend in Paris. The former Napoli striker is the club’s record goalscorer, bagging 195 goals in 287 appearances, and is one of only three players to have netted more than 100 times for the Parc des Princes side. Throughout his career, according to Transfermarkt, he has netted 336 goals in 542 club games. Better marksmen are few and far between in Europe.

Lallana, meanwhile, has failed to reach anywhere near that status at Liverpool. He was signed in 2014 with much promise for £25m, but he hasn’t made the impact many expected him to. He has made 161 appearances across five years for the Reds, scoring just 22 goals and providing 21 assists.

It isn’t all the £13.5m-rated man’s fault to be fair. He has suffered a number of injuries during his time at Anfield – he has missed 67 matches overall due to being on the sidelines – but he has still underwhelmed, and it now looks as though it would be the perfect time for him to leave.

He’s struggled for game time again this term, appearing four times off the bench in the Premier League, making the starting line-up on just one occasion.

The interest is perhaps good news for Liverpool, and they can take advantage of this to get him off their books for good.

His departure would rid them of his £110,000-a-week wages, which could be better spent elsewhere as Jurgen Klopp and co look to strengthen their squad in other areas. For the Merseyside club, it is the right time to part ways.

Arsenal fans buzzing with Kieran Tierney’s comments

Having joined from Scottish giants Celtic last summer, it hasn’t been the most enjoyable of debut campaigns for Kieran Tierney at Arsenal.

The Scotland international has struggled with injury problems all season, and it has meant that he has only featured 11 times across all competitions for the first-team at the Emirates.

Reports in recent months had even suggested fellow Premier League side Leicester were interested in signing him, but judging from his latest comments, it appears he has his heart fully set on staying with the Gunners.

When asked about what his favourite thing about living in London was during an Ask Me Anything session, Tierney replied: “Playing for Arsenal. I didn’t move to Arsenal to live in London. I came here to London so I could play for Arsenal.”

Naturally, once Gunners supporters had heard of his answer, they took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the left-back.

A couple of fans even called for him to be given the captain’s armband – an honour currently held by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Some simply praised the kind of attitude he showed with his words, with one fan in particular saying it’s exactly the kind of personality an Arsenal player should have.

If he can stay clear of injuries for next season, then the £22.5m-rated Tierney could form a tantalising full-back partnership with Hector Bellerin on the right-flank.

The Gunners have been blessed with a couple of Premier League greats in that position in Nigel Winterburn and Ashley Cole. Tierney will no doubt be hoping he can follow in those footsteps too.

Meanwhile, Arsenal can land their new Santi Cazorla with this ace.

Leicester City: Kolo Toure’s role coaching role explained in detail

A report from the Daily Mail has delved deeper into the role Kolo Toure is playing as first-team coach at Leicester City.

Adam Shergold’s story in the Daily Mail takes a closer look at the success Leicester are having this season, suggesting that they have a real chance of targeting a third-place spot.

When talking about Leicester’s defence, Shergold referenced Toure and the positive impact he is having on Caglar Soyuncu.

He said: “Soyuncu, 23, is one of the players who has benefited from the vast experience of Kolo Toure, the club’s de facto defensive coach who followed Rodgers from Celtic.

“Toure, the former Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool defender who has managerial aspirations of his own, conducts one-on-one analysis sessions with each defender after every match, passing on his knowledge.

“It goes a long way to explaining why Leicester have the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding just eight times in their 10 matches so far.”

Whatever Kolo Toure is doing with those defenders, it seems to be working. The attacking talent and flair were there for all to see last Friday when they annihilated Southampton in their own backyard, but let’s not forget about the fact they have only conceded eight goals in the league this season – the joint-lowest in the division along with Liverpool and Sheffield United.

And at the heart of that defence is, of course, Soyuncu and Jonny Evans. Any doubts over Soyuncu stepping up at the beginning of the season with Harry Maguire gone seemed to have evaporated after 10 performances of the highest calibre. Soyuncu has played every minute of the league season and has a really impressive 7.14/10 average – hugely impressive given it’s his breakout season in the Premier League.

There is clearly great work going on from Brendan Rodgers and his staff, as Leicester look a very assured outfit at the moment – miles away from when Claude Puel was sacked back in late February.

And a big part of that is Kolo Toure. If Shergold’s statement is true about the one-on-one sessions, they are clearly having a positive effect, as the squad looks to have great morale and spirit, as well as being very assured of what they are doing and how they need to do it.
